WRITING

Denis Postle

This section collects together some of my writing, much of it in recent years for eIpnosis, an internet journal for the Independent Practitioners Network (IPN) - several hundred thousand words of commentary and reporting on the massive incongruities of therapists seeking to regulated by the state. Resistance was successful, read about it on the eiPnosis site or in Therapy Futures and Regulating the Psychological Therapies collections of material from the eIpnosis website and there is partial index of eIpnosis here

Alongside eIpnosis (and see also the new Living from love pages here) writing has followed the twin themes of the heading on these pages 'facilitate the power of love confront the love of power'. I have long tried to hold a mix of resistance and satyagraha, Gandi’s name for positive programme. See the Mind Gymnasium eBooks and psyCommons sections here for ways in to my best takes on this.

In assembling this material, I recovered an early blog Livingfromlove that I gave up when it was overwhelmed by Viagra spam. I was surprised to find much of its engagement with the personal and political remains very enlivening.

Here is an index of its contents.

Three earlier books still hold value as introductions to their respective subjects:
Fabric of the Universe was based on a CERN/BBC Horizon film about high energy physices.
Catastrophe Theory was also based on a film for BBC Horizon, about developments in mathematics.
The Mind Gymnasium is an introduction to humanistic psychology (see also the ebooks here).

All three are still available second-hand from Amazon.

Background:
In the 1990s a sector of the human potential/humanistic psychology tradition out of which I had developed as a psypractitioner became aware of a desire on the part of established therapies such as psychoanalysis to have the state endorse their virtues. It was and remains an intolerable attempt to install unwarranted privilege, and a mix of resistance and the creation of alternative institutions followed, resulting in the regulation by the state being dropped.
